Vastra E-com App
My Role :
Creating an app from concept to product
Duration :
August 2022 - Oct 2022
Project Overview
As part of my Ux Design Professional Certificate, I created an e-commerce online shopping app for my best friend, targeting all age group audiences, including homemakers, college graduates, working professionals & Gen-Z.
The Problem
The target audience finds shopping to be time-consuming, physically draining, and frustrating. As there is no such dedicated app & for every placed order details, users need to communicate through her social media page or by personally calling on shared business no. So, I noticed that the main user experience, locating and ordering items, is not easy & user friendly for users to complete. Further, before launching the app, I’d also like to understand the specific challenges that users might face in the browsing, customizing, and ordering process.
The Goal
Create a time-saving, accessible, and simple-to-use/user-friendly shopping app

Challenges

For the Google UX design certificate program, the assignment was to develop a mobile app or website for social goods that would solve user pain points.
1) Creating a way to order items & customize them
2) Creating a user-friendly app for her target audience
3) Making an accessible design
4) Making payment & order tracking easy

Responsibilities

Conducting interviews, wireframing, prototyping, usability studies, user research, Accounting for accessibility, Iterating on designs

Initial Questions

Once I had a basic idea of the requirements, I started with some initial questions
1. What do her customers not like about the current ordering process?
2. What is something we could improve about the current order placements?
3. Who are the target audience?

Age: 19 yrs.
Occupation: College student
Family Status: Mom, Dad & 1 pet
Technical Knowledge: Excellent
English Level: Intermediate
Vanshi Ojha
Vanshi is a college sophomore studying business. When she's not studying or doing extracurricular, she likes to hang out with friends. She also likes to shop: online for convenience & amazing deals, and in-store so that she can try on products. Curious about the world around her, Vanshi is always looking for new trends, whether in fashion or technology!

Goals:
Stay up-to-date with the latest trends, and buy fashionable clothing which uses interesting patterns, and designs & is customizable.

Hesitations & Pain Points:
Does not have enough money to buy everything at full price, Can get bored with the new "trend" after some time, Busy with classes & extracurriculars, Associates high-end brands with older people
Meet the Users
Based on the interviews, two personas are created to represent different user segments
Ideation
Based on the research, I decided to create an app that would:
-
Allow customers to interact with other loyal customers.
-
Allow customers to add items to their wish list while browsing.
-
Utilize a rewards system to encourage customers to keep using the app.
-
Option for ordering fabric swatch to check the quality
-
Notify customers about the latest sales, trends & offers
Once we formulated an idea, we created a flow chart to help us flesh out the details

Starting the Design

Digital Wireframes
and lo-fi Protoptye
As the initial design phase continued, I made sure the design was based on feedback and findings from user research.

Rich in information was a key user needed to address in the designs, as well as the clear information structure.

Using the completed set of digital wireframes, I created a low-fidelity prototype, so that prototype could be used in a usability study.
Before & After the usability design
Early design only has more and more text and less screen space. However, the users stated that they care more about the important details and available products with simple and understandable UI.

The shop page. I followed the eCommerce standard of organizing the products into different categories. The products are listed in a blog-like layout, as opposed to a standard grid, to make the page more visually interesting. Customers have the option to save items they like, as that was a feature considered to be very valuable. After saving the product in their favourite, they have the option to view their wish list.

Your profile page is where you can edit your avatar and view your saved posts. You can also view your rewards. I created a rewards system where customers can view earned reward/promo code details which can be used while placing orders. Each reward would offer a discount or access to an event or sale. This would incentivize customers to keep using the app.
Accessibility Considerations

Icon
Use both icons and texts to let users find the functions they look for easily

Visual
Use consistent colours, sizes, and fonts to let users can easily get familiar with the app

Images
Use images to help all users better understand the designs.

Based on the users’ feedback, the final version of the mockups was completed. To access the app, all different screen sizes, every element was adjusted so the users can view and access the app in an easier and user-friendly way.

Lessons Learnt

This project has been a great learning experience for me. I got to learn more about Figma and its features. I'm excited to apply what I've learned to even more projects in the future. In this project, I was able to develop even more knowledge of design apps and features, as well as more of an understanding of design standards. Overall, It also taught me to come up with innovative ideas while keeping in mind that a phone screen is tiny. I enjoyed being creative with my ideas. It was a new experience that helped me grow greatly. If I were to redo it, I would test the design with users to see how they respond.

Moving forward, I would like to develop more wireframes for this app. I would also like to change the colour schemes that are not as accessible as they can be. I had a lot of fun with this project, and I don’t plan for it to end here.
